Trying out Nostr the quick way

Trying out Nostr the quick way
Nostr is not the name of a fluffy kitten. It stands for Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted over Relays

Nostr is a privacy-focused internet of social media, chat, contact forms, and every conceivable app and web service. An instant global digital payment system is also built in to Nostr making it a very exciting proposition for anyone who makes or builds stuff, or creates content for a living.

Finally, we have the tools to re-imagine an internet we can all enjoy safely, and use as we want, not how "they" want!

Sign up for Nostr

1) Short version ⬇︎

1 - Go to iris.to. 2 - Input any name. 3 - Go!

That's it, you are on the Nostr network using Iris, a social media app. You have given no ID, no email, you are completely anonymous by default. You are free to post whatever you like, upload photos and videos of whatever you want.

Nostr is a bunch of code that lets people build social media platforms, or chat rooms or contact forms or photo galleries, file hosting sites, Pinterest copies, whatever feature you can imagine. But the code demands that the privacy of all users is guaranteed by default.

All content is encrypted, and nobody can be obliged to provide personal ID to use Nostr.

Furthermore, whatever you post on a Nostr app remains your property and follows you from app to app. This is in complete contrast to conventional internet apps where the companies dictate terms, intrude on your privacy and even take ownership of your content.

So it is far from madness having anonymous access to Nostr social media. Every user has the same user rights, and company developers are in a huge competition to provide the best tools for you to choose the content you want, communicate with the people you like, and keep the rest out.

There is no tracking, no ads, no algorithms. Not because they cannot be included in a Nostr app, but because users will not tolerate them. Open, free, and private - three ways to assure the best user experience.

You have just found your new home at Nostr, if you believe in your right to privacy and freedom of expression.

That first sign up was a practice run. Now you need to keep your username and password safe.

Here's a 2-minute video re-run of the sign up process, and how to save your username/password key pair.

If you are a free spirit, you don't need to know any more. Enjoy. Learn the hard way, like we had to! Check out signers and apps for proficient Nostr users

Quick Steps A-Z

Unlock Nostr for Android using the Amber app
  • Download Amber for Android an Open Source app free of ads and tracking.
  • In Settings create your public and private keypair
  • Save

That's it. Your encrypted keypair ie your "password and username" are safe.

Reload this page and DM me via the chat button.

If you enjoyed that, I suggest trying the next set of instructions as well, to install the Alby browser extension. It's a really useful addition to your armoury.

Any issues with Amber, don't struggle, go straight to the following instructions for iOS and Alby. These will work for your Android phone, but it just takes a couple of extra steps!

Unlock Nostr for iOS or desktop with password-less sign-ins.
Sign up to Nostr at Primal in 3 steps.

  • Click on 'Get Started'
  • Put any username
  • Ignore everything else. Enter!

Welcome. You are now a Nostr user. In this case you can read, like, boost, comment, upload photos. Follow me, even! Easy, right?

  • Before you sign out, you need to make sure you can sign back in to Nostr. Go to Settings > Account
  • Copy and paste the Public and Private keys to a password manager or secure notepad.

With these keys you can sign in to Primal and any Nostr app.

Sign out. Now, to sign back in to Nostr automagically, password-less...so you can also get to use our chat button, get Alby!

  • Open your browser Settings > Add-ons or extensions.
  • Search for 'getalby'. Enable Alby.
  • Add your public and private keys that you saved from Primal. Alby also requires an "unlock" password. Something memorable like "not again".

Alby now lives in your browser bar ready to sign you in without a password, when it senses any Nostr chat, contact form, app or website.

  • Reload this page and DM me via the chat button or
  • Return to Primal and Sign IN.
  • Alby will pop up. Enter the "unlock" password. First time on Primal or any other Nostr app, it may also ask you to "Confirm" that you want to sign in. Click and go.

That's password-less access to Nostr 101...! Next up, how to connect any Lightning wallet to Alby so you can make and receive payments on Nostr - Youtube, Reddit and more.
How to use Nostr social media like a pro on all devices.
With Amber or Alby, or both installed, you are now set up to use our Formstr contact forms and Chat, without having to enter an email or remember a password. But there is so much more to Nostr. It is commonly known as "Twitter Killer" if that gives you a clue!

The following three steps are optional, of course, but I'd push on while you are in the mood.

1) Set up a lightning wallet

  • Send AND receive Bitcoin effortlessly on this website, on Nostr social media and any Nostr app requiring payments.
  • Start dealing with thousands of real world businesses accepting Bitcoin, often at a discount.
  • Leverage the true power of Bitcoin and support family, friends or communities in need instantly, direct, wherever they are in the world. No permission required from any bank.

Lightning wallet options abound. I use Blink. It generates a lightning address like "myname@blink.sv". Keep that handy for your social media bio.

If you are tech savvy and just need basic info:
  • Download Blink, an easy starter wallet.
  • Add a few bucks of Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Scan the QR code

  • lnurl1dp68gurn8ghj7urp0yhxymrfde4juumk9uh8wetvdskkkmn0wahz7mrww4excup0dakxjan9vaex7an9v4nkwucdsjj0k

    • or copy the long ln address in to your Lightning Wallet
    • Select the send option.
    • Choose an amount.
    • Confirm the fee (which is usually close to 0).
    • Send.

If you are brand new to this, check out the video below to see how to set up and use Alby wallet.

    2) Generate a free Nostr Address. It is a human-readable ID to display on your Nostr bio. It is extra proof of the authenicity of your account when you publish content.

    • Go to Zaps.lol for a free address.
    • Paste in your private key (nsec). Your public key (npub) will pop up. Only you could possibly have this key pair combination.
    • Save the "myaccount@zaps.lol" address.

    3) Add your Nostr Address and Lightning Wallet address to your Nostr bio.

Now, to show you how open and free the Nostr network is, let's update your bio in Iris, a competitor of Primal.

    • Go to Iris
    • Amber or Alby will sign you in.
    • In the Account bio section, add your lightning wallet and Nostr Address. Edit whatever else you like.
    • Sign out
    • Go back to Primal. Amber or Alby will sign you in. Your bio, followers and notes will be there waiting for you!

Picture the inconvenience of moving from FaceBook to another legacy social media platform. It is the complexity and opaque set up that traps users on FaceBook even if users are really unhappy with the direction of travel of new rules. Maybe it is time to break out.

    4) To find out what else a truly open internet has to offer

    • Download Zap Store, use F-Droid instead of Google Play...
    • Check out apps on nostr.net
    • Try Amethyst social media app for Android.
    • Start following cool Nostr peeps on any social media client! I'm not cool but I am olivegroveeggs@zaps.lol . It's a relaxed place because we are not dealing with ads, tracking or algorithms designed to cause arguments, depression or division, seriously!

    5) A detailed step-by-step Alby demo.

Excellent info from BTC Sessions on how to send lightning payments to almost ANY website, Youtube channel, or even an email displaying an Alby wallet address.

    Sign in to Nostr

The rest of this article is for complete newcomers who want a slow and steady explanation of how to try out Nostr, from anonymous user to seasoned Nostrich.

Full profile on Amethyst Nostr social media client: my Nostr handle (Olive Grove eggs); my npub key (aka username); my Nostr Address (extra verification that I own the account); blink.sv address of wallet to send/receive money; a bio

    Privacy all the way

As an experiment, you are going to sign up anonymously, which is the default Nostr way. If you want to reveal your true identiy, of course you can, but it's your choice.

The Iris app will auto create a fully operational Nostr account for you. Within 2 clicks you will be able to read, post and add photos, like, and boost!

    • Go to iris.to, a Nostr social media client. It is one of many.
    • Input a name, any name
    • Hit Go!

Welcome to the Nostr social media scene! There are many sites vying for your attention. Move around from site to site and your posts and followers go with you!

    • Go from the equivalent of Twitter to FaceBook to TikTok to pinterest to ..
    • Whatever you post on one social media client appears on all clients. That includes updates on your profile. One profile for the whole network.
    • Your followers go with you, giving you no reason to stay on a platform you don't like. A stark contrast to how legacy social media traps you in!

    Have a look around.

Nostr is still only 2 years young. It works fantastically well, though. The core functions don't change, but the speed of upgrades is such that one day to the next you may find new features in, old features out. One social media site hasn't had a logout option in a while! Another has no search yet.

Trending hashtags are very varied. Something for everyone.

    • Many users on Nostr start their first post of the day with "GM" (Good morning!)
    • The next icon along is "Boost" or repost in your timeline.
    • The next is the ubiquitous "Like". You have seen all this before on FaceBook, Twitter.

The last icon, the lightning strike, that's different, and that is for later.

If you follow Olive Grove Eggs and you are a member of Grove Eco, DM me to say hi and I will zap you 100 sats!

Before you sign out, read this!

    • Go to Settings>Account>Export keys. Without this pair you cannot get back in to the same account.
    • Copy the public key and private key and paste them to a safe place, ideally your Password Manager. You have one of those, right? If not, try 1Password (paid), Bitwarden (paid) or KeyPassXc ($-free and cloud-free).
    • The location of public and private keys varies from client to client. I see that Iris now have the keys in different places. But finding and copying the two keys is a one-time function and is as scary as it gets, technically!
    • With the two keys safe in your password manager, you can sign out of Nostr.

    What just happened?

The basic principle is: Unless you use the same public and private key pair that you sign in with, you can't ever access that same account. There is nobody to call for a password reset.

You can of course set up a new account an infinite number of times. There are actually many use cases where it is encouraged to create a new Nostr "burner" account.

Journalists in adversarial states for instance might use this platform. Post once and never save the keys, no trace left of their ID.

You may be reading this thinking it is a terrible idea to be able to post what you like anon. Sure, SOME people will abuse it. Nostr has simple ways for you to block such idiots. But what I have found is that once you are outside the traditional social media bubble, the general story on Nostr is that you start to relax, to feel like a normal human being, focusing on the content and people that give you pleasure, not on the defensive dealing with people typing what they would never say to you face to face.

Surprisingly, the vast vast majority of us are decent when treated right, and not provoked and antagonised by algorithms. Left to our own devices, most of us are not naturally mischievous and nasty, but we are living in an increasingly mischievous and nasty system of social media. Nostr is one way back to civil and decent behaviour online.

How to sign back in to Nostr (social media).

There are several possible ways you may be asked to sign back in/login to a Nostr account.

    • Sign in with your Public key
    • Sign in with your private nSec key
    • Sign in with an extension browser

We are going straight for the Browser Extension, because password-less logins are the true magic of Nostr. Automatic login with an encrypted universal ID tied to you. No password, email or 2FA nonsense here.

Signing in with the Alby browser extension.

This is the smooth, secure, automated way to sign in to any Nostr app.

Alby is like a password manager in your browser keeping your public and private key pair encrypted and safe. It is smarter than that though. It is an Event Signer.

    Event signer?

In Nostr speak an "event" is a post, or a like, or some sort (or "kind") of content uploaded to Nostr. For your convenience, you give Alby permission to automatically sign ie submit your private key to prove that you are the author of types of event.

But there are events that you might want to double check yourself before agreeing. You can set up Alby so that whenever you are asked for a payment, or an unusual request from the website, Alby will pop up and ask you to confirm it. To agree, you just confirm with a click.

(My technical knowledge ends right there.)

    Download Alby

Desktop: You can download and install the Alby Browser Extension for Chromium and Firefox-based browsers, like Google Chrome, Brave, Mozilla Firefox, Tor Browser, Microsoft Edge, Opera.

You might want to just follow Alby website instructions and explanations and come back here for the rest

Mobile: Firefox on Android - check for settings>Add-ons or Extensions. The Alby Browser Extension is available to download and install

Install Alby browser extension straight from your desktop browser.

This is the 3-step install of Alby if you have Firefox for Desktop. It starts with the three bars.

    Search for getalby

The Alby bee can reside in your browser bar.

    • Open Alby
    • Add an unlock password (mine is something unforgettable like "not again")
    • Add your public and private keys.

That's it, when you arrive at a Nostr website or want to use a Nostr app, like our contact forms or Chat, Alby will sign you in, sign an event based on the level of permissions you have set.

Don't trust, verify the permissions first

You have control over the level of trust you give Alby. First option is "I want to confirm every single action myself". That's a good way to see what websites are doing, actually, but it is tiresome for every site.

The default is a more practical option: "Be reasonable!" where basic events like reading your username and letting you sign in and post are taken care of automatically. But if you need to pay for something, then Alby will ask you to confirm before proceeding.

And third is a "Whatever, mate, this site is safe, I trust it totally" which is not the smartest move, unless it is your site or app!

Sign in scenarios you might encounter

The Chat button on this website

Alby signs you in automagically so you can submit the DM "as yourself".

    On a social media site

    • The first time you turn up, Alby will pop up on your screen. You confirm with a click that you give Alby permission to sign for you.
    • You might be asked what level of trust you have for the site. Stick with the middle option default.
    • If you return to that site again, often times Alby will not appear, just do its thing.
    • It may pop up asking you to enter an UNLOCK password. That's why I suggest a simple memorable pass phrase.
    • The site may ask you to confirm gain. It's just a click. There is nothing else for you to remember.

This process takes longer to write than to do. It's a case of doing it and seeing how easy the Nostr way is compared to email, password and 2FA!

Take two minutes to set up Alby Browser Extension, and now there is nothing to ever copy-paste, nothing to ever remember.

And if you were to keep your key pair in a password manager stored on a separate device like an encrypted hard drive, you'd be pretty well backed-up.

    Nostr the Twitter killer plus.

Nostr offers a fresh take on private communication, prioritizing user privacy above all else. This open-source protocol, just a few lines of code, empowers developers to create a new internet experience where personal privacy is paramount. The philosophy behind Nostr harks back to the original vision of the Internet – open, private, and accessible to all.

Beyond social media, Nostr's privacy-focused approach has numerous applications, such as contact forms, review submission forms, and even color scheme selections on websites like Olive Grove Eggs, made possible through Formstr, an app built on the Nostr protocol.

At its core, Nostr is about safeguarding user data and giving you control over your personal information. It's not about secrecy, but rather the freedom to choose who has access to your details. Users, contributors, and participants are taking a stand for privacy, choosing a different path away from corporations or businesses that impose unreasonable terms.

Take Facebook, for example, which collects personal information and tracks internet habits, tying them to individual users. Nostr challenges this notion by allowing users to decide what information to share, with encrypted IDs ensuring secure handling of personal data.

Nostr is also a response to the trend of controlling and limiting online content and access. Nostr is a second chance to create an internet that works for everyone, everywhere, with privacy at its heart. Hyperbole?

Signing in with your Public and/or Private keys

According to research into using passwords v automagic sign ins, Newbies to Nostr seem happy to copy and paste their secret keys to log in to apps.

Whilst Nostr sites are secure, it makes much more sense for individual users to keep their own keys privately on their phone, than deposit them in a central database on a site that could be targeted and compromised by determined forces.

In other words, after spending any time around Nostr, it seems really silly and fiddly and inviting trouble to copy and paste a secret key.

Why not spend 5 minues setting up Alby once and click your way around the internet! Who wants to follow this sequence every time?

    • Go to your password manager.
    • Copy your private nsec key from your password manager.
    • Paste it into the dialogue box.
    • Go.
If you have a browser extension like Alby or Nos-2x installed, this sort of sign-in option becomes obsolete!

    Nostr coolness factors

Sign in to ANY Nostr social media or productivity app with one of several signers.

    • Alby is one password storage and signer extension.
    • Nos2x is an option for Chrome browsers (try privacy browsers like Kiwi instead of Google Chrome)
    • Nos2x-Fox is for privacy-first Firefox, another extension which I have installed. This is the developer's video of Nos2x in action.

You can have both or more installed to cover any gaps in coverage. One of the two will pop up, depending on the website or app.

    • Amber for Android! For even more security and convenience, try an Android app called Amber. This is the next step up in security from Alby in your browser bar. It downloads to your phone, and encrypted keys are created, which never leave your phone. In principle, Amber will appear when you try sign in to a website. It is a new technology that is still being adopted, so install it, but if the sites you go to haven't upgraded, then Alby or Nos2x-Fox will appear. No email/password nonsense, either way.

    Universal posting on social media.

Whatever you post on one social media app is accessible on every other app in the Nostrsphere.

Imagine posting on X and FaceBook at the same time! And if you get fed up with one social media app, you login to a different home and your content is magically ported in, along with all your followers, ready for you to carry on where you left off.

Nostr is a privacy respecting protocol.

    • Nostr never asks you for your name, email, telephone number, nothing.
    • Apps cannot track you.
    • Nobody can shadow ban, censor, edit or delete your work.
    • Algorithms are simply for helping with finding content, and they start and stop at giving you full control of who you follow, and what you choose to see.
    • There are no algorithms to enrage you, and if you did ever find a client that delivers content you don't care for, use another client. Vote with your feet for freedom online

    No ads

This is mostly true but I have noticed a couple of places show them. Just tell them you won't use them with ads, they need to find a better way to sustain the website financially. We use the Value for Value model.

Nostriches seem very relaxed on Nostr.

A Nostrich, which is the pet name for a Nostr user, seem very laid back. In my opinion, I think people respond well to the inbuilt respect for their right to privacy and freedom of speech. It is not negotiable. You can post what you like, and if you don't like what someone says you simply block them.

You aren't alone though keeping away from unsavoury characters or posters that seem to have an agenda you aren't keen on hearing. The content posted to Nostr is stored on relays, as in servers located all over the world. The relay owners are responsible for distributing the Nostr chit chat back out to users. They are very good at spotting feedback from users. In essence, they don't delete posts that multiple people may have complained about, they simply don't re-distribute any content from the source.

Another relay could choose to send out that same "distasteful" content, but to users who want to hear or see it.

It's a type of social score, I guess, to avoid censorship. It is not perfect yet, but Nostr is governed by the users, not a central controller like Elon.

The next big development is "discovery" - enabling you to easily find and sign up to communities you identify with. Nos Social are leading the way here. Rabble was a co-founder of Twitter, now a staunch Nostr advocate, and very clear on how to make everyone welcome on Nostr by pointing you to what you want.

I for one find it a very constructive and peaceful space, a breath of fresh air. #asknostr

Unlock the Fun of Nostr: Set Up Your Wallet and Start Zapping Sats

    npub10dpmrjay77xcu6z2sxsv7h7dfl6puzcxgyd6ssxkwh9th8sdgk3sj39zws

    The lightning set up experience

To experience the full potential of Nostr, set up a Lightning wallet and get ready to join the fun. The lightning icon which represents "Zap $ats" is more than just a symbol - it's a gateway to a seamless and exciting way to make purchases and show appreciation for great content.

With the Lightning network, you can use Bitcoin to make fast and affordable transactions, perfect for micro-payments and tipping on social media. Lightning is also the framework for global payment settlement of larger amounts, leaving Bitcoin blockchain for very big payments and providing the foundation for Lightning.

"Zapping $ats" is a convenient and engaging way to support your favorite creators with a quick tip, or make purchases. In principle, Lightning is shaping up as the instant payment layer on top of Bitcoin, to take over from Visa. It's already here working. Businesses, even countries accept Bitcoin now!

This is a good starting point for a Lightning wallet

There are many to choose from. If it helps you to dip your feet in the water, I use Blink Wallet. I know a lot of first-time users opt for Alby or Wallet of Satoshi.

Check out your preferred app store if you feel more comfortable sourcing from the big boyz.

As an example, this is what I did:

    • I went to that list of wallets on Lightening address.com.
    • I found Blink. It is a custodial lightning wallet from Bitcoin Beach in el Salvador!
    • I downloaded it, and set up an account using my phone number as ID. Ever tried a burner SMS telephone number?!
    • Blink created my lightning address ...@blink.sv
    • I added olivegroveeggs@blink.sv to my Nostr profile.

With that address on display, linked to my profile, which is based on my public-private key pair, I can safely receive and send sats on Nostr and hopefully, now, so can you!

2 - Load up some Bitcoin onto your wallet.

    • Ask a Bitcoiner friend to sell you a few bucks' worth, or
    • Try earn some BTC. One two three sets of ideas.
    • Join me on Nostr, say hi, and I will zap you some sats.
    • Buy a small amount from Strike or CashApp, or Swan Bitcoin, River, Unchained. A good summary of a few of those options is here.

A wallet that does social media

If you want a taste of the future of the internet, you could download Primal, a social media app for Nostr. Or try the web version. It sets you up with a free lightning wallet and a simple way to put a few bucks' worth of BTC on it to spend.

And while you are on Primal you can also say hi. My nPub is

    npub10dpmrjay77xcu6z2sxsv7h7dfl6puzcxgyd6ssxkwh9th8sdgk3sj39zws

    Ready, steady, go

The primary aim here is to get you started with a little bit of skin in the game. Only then will the words really make sense. When you see how little there is to using Lightning but grasp what a powerful tool it is, other ideas and opportunities will open up.

It's Bitcoin, I know. But you aren't a criminal, I'm not a criminal, and it is not criminal to use Bitcoin. But it is your right, you would think, to use money in a way that works for you when you need it, without asking for permission from a bank?

And once you have a Lightning address, you will see Paypal and Visa and banks for what they are - old tech that has wormed its way into the middle of every transaction, to make a cut. Screw that! And when it gets fun is when people zap sats to you! That's when the circular economy kicks in.

And who knew, you can even use an app like Koinly to organise all your lightning wallet transactions for your tax return. What more do you want?

Over all, you are good to go.

You are up and running on Nostr. You may be happy with that.

    • Alby is dealing with secure sign-ins.
    • You have set up the Alby wallet or another lightning wallet, which is linked to your Nostr account.
    • You are good for sending and receiving lightning payments.

    zapping sats with alby.jpg

    But...

If you sign in and go to settings you will see a few missing profile details. I suggest you push for the final minutiae.

Set up a Nostr Address to add to the web of trust

I used Zaps.lol to convert my npub public key (npub...) into olivegroveeggs@zaps.lol

Now go into settings on your Nostr app and add your Nostr Address to your profile. You now have human-readable verifiable proof that you are the owner of the account.

    The purpose behind Nostr Addresses

Verification and Identity on Nostr: A Secure and Pseudonymous Solution

In the digital age, establishing trust and credibility online can be a significant challenge. On Nostr, a decentralized platform, users can create their own identities and build their reputation without the need for traditional verification methods. However, this also raises concerns about authenticity and accountability.

Our solution addresses these concerns by providing a secure and pseudonymous way for users to establish their identity on Nostr. By displaying a unique Nostr Address, generated by a public-private key combination, users can create a digital fingerprint that verifies their authenticity.

    Key Benefits:

    1. Unique Identity: A Nostr Address is tied to a specific public-private key combination, ensuring that only the owner of the combination can use the address.
    2. Pseudonymity: Users are not required to provide their real name, allowing them to maintain their anonymity while still establishing a credible online presence.
    3. Verification: When users display their Nostr Address, others can reverse-check the address to verify the public key, ensuring that the posts are indeed from the claimed author.
    4. Streamlined Payments: Our solution also provides an email-style lightning payment address, making it easier for users to work with Bitcoin and facilitating seamless transactions.

    Conclusion

Our Nostr Address solution offers a secure and pseudonymous way for users to establish their identity on the platform. By providing a unique digital fingerprint, users can build their credibility and trust with others, while maintaining their anonymity. This innovative solution has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about online identity and verification.

    That's about it.

    Well done.

    • You can now sign into any Nostr app without exposing your secret key
    • You can securely interact with the many apps on the Nostrverse
    • You can send and receive money, zapping like a champ in appreciation of the content creators investing their time in Nostr - and vice versa.
    • You never need to use any other FaceBook type social media platform again!
    • You are part of a peaceful revolution that is building a mirror version of the current internet on Nostr.
      • No FaceBook and Google tracking and surveilling and elbowing ads into your life.
      • No manipulating algorithms to rile you.
      • No censorship from Elon who thinks he knows best what news you need to see and react to.
      • Nobody able to dictate how you chat when putting the world to rights with your brothers and sisters.

    Feeling confident?

If you want to discover some "better" Nostr apps, Password Managers, browser extensions, Nostr Address generators and wallets, check them out here.

One click login; no tracking; no ads; no manipulative algorithms; no data harvesting; no Elon censoring, banning or fomenting! Nostr is the people's freedom platform, yay.

Articles about Nostr, the philosophy, its usage

    Lightning powering the circular economy

To use Nostr's Bitcoin lightning payments, also known as Zaps, you'll need a few things set up first. You'll need a lightning wallet with a few Sats (the equivalent of micro pennies of Bitcoin) in your balance, and a Lightning Address. You can obtain Sats by going to an exchange, doing an in-person purchase, or earning them by posting good content on Nostr.

Once you're set up, you can use Zaps to tip or make payments to other users. If you read a post you like or find valuable, you can click on the lightning icon beneath the post. This will allow you to choose the amount to send. You can then use Alby to display and confirm the payment, or do a QR scan from a 3rd party wallet on your phone.

The process works both ways: if you're set up, you can also receive Bitcoin direct into your wallet from other Nostr users who see value in your contributions. This concept is known as Value for Value.

Lightning payments make circular economies viable not just for content creators, podcasters and musicians but all businesses. Everyone can participate in zapping sats for making others laugh or providing good food, a woven basket or a building. You can literally send 1¢ over the bitcoin network in seconds, or $1bn to a room across the globe in minutes.

You must be mad not to be on the big social media platforms!

I blog about Nostr regularly. As I'm integrating it into my business, I need to understand it too.
