Some extra apps and add-ons to improve your time on Nostr

Nostr is the internet done right, with privacy built in: no tracking, no ads, no data mining; no manipulative algorithms, no Elon goons telling you what you can and cannot publish on their platform.

Nostr cannot be hijacked by billionaires. The Nostr protocol and the users simply won't allow it!

It's not an airy fairy ideal. Nostr is here right now, usable, useful and surprisingly comforting. But with freedom comes responsibility, and as a new user, we do need to change the chip a little as we set up on Nostr. But it's not that hard, and only needs to be done once.

• 1Password comes up everywhere as the leading recommendation. Caveat, you have to pay.
• BitWarden is no longer free. Does the job, but not as polished as 1Password.
• I use KeepassX, an older but super simple application for Mac. All passwords are stored on the computer, not on the internet, which is a very clever security twist. KeePassXc is the updated version for Windows, Mac and Linux with options to access your passwords via the cloud.

You can stay anonymous on Nostr, most do, but if you want to build a following, it makes sense that you can easily prove you are the owner of your account when you post. The definitive proof of ID is your Public/private key pairing. Next best is the Nostr Address, a human readable way of verifying your ID by combining your public key with internet account authentication. My Nostr handle, Olive Grove Eggs, is not proof of anything, unless it is backed by the previous 2 tools.

• Nostr is fanatical about personal privacy, freedom of choice, and cryptography. Nicely summed up in the Bitcoiner meme, Don't Trust, Verify.
• Nostr developers often have a background in Bitcoin, so they understand cryptography, and are proving insanely good at what they do. As well as highly motivated to build a parallel internet, it doesn't hurt that the Nostr protocol is also profoundly simple.
