Nostr the only social media app I would ever dare use

Nostr is miles apart from the usual suspect social media platforms that are geared up to create drama and engagement. Nostr is an open network that respects privacy and actually treats its users like adults. You can remain anonymous, and you aren't even required to provide an email address. Nostr has no central owner, so there is no one like Elon Musk hovering ready and willing to delete posts, censor, or ban users. Nostr is truly pro freedom of speech as nothing is deleted by default, for better or worse.

Nostr users seem to have responded to their freedom in a very positive way, questioning the lie that moderation and control are necessary to keep social media platforms safe and informative. I would say that Nostr highlights how the control exerted by Twitter, FaceBook and co are likely the drivers of misbehaviour.

While there may be some silliness, nastiness, and weirdness on Nostr, just like in real life, you don't have to engage with it. You can build your own feed by using hashtags and choosing who you follow. This allows you to avoid the kind of antagonism-inducing algorithms used by other social media platforms.

In my experience, the Nostr community is quite positive and upbeat, and the conversations are genuinely useful. You don't have to agree with every point of view, and you don't have to respond if you don't want to. I've learned a lot from my time on Nostr.

Nostr is more than just a social media platform; it's an internet protocol, which means developers can build all kinds of applications on top of it. The brightest minds are working on creating new apps to improve or replace the current crop of applications that dominate the internet today. These apps will address issues like tracking, algorithmic manipulation, outdated login methods, and clunky payment systems.
