How to pick a colour, any colour, for your Olive Grove Eggs micro website

As an Olive Grove Eggs micro website owner, you can select any colour combination theme you like as part of the set-up fee. Choose before launch or change later. To get started, find inspiration from other websites - or as all the great artists have done - "copy", and jot down your preferred colours in the form provided.Get picking!

Your phone or computer should have a digital color meter built in. If not, any app store will have a bunch under "digital color meter". There are freebies around still.

  • Open the app and run the cursor over the screen. Hex # numbers will appear for literally each pixel.

Alternatively, use one the many resources available for free on the web. I recommend Red Ketchup. At the risk of teaching you how to suck eggs...

  • Take a screenshot of a website
  • Load it into Red Ketchup.
  • Select Magnifier AND Image.
  • Move the cursor to ID any individual pixel colour.

The wonders and frustrations of on-screen colours

As a reference point, the default background colour of your micro website is set at #cfccc8

Every device screen sees colours differently, that's just how it is.

And the colours you see on your Red Ketchup screenshot, just like on any photo, may not match the original EXACTLY.

If your colour picker tells you the background is not #cfccc8 but say #cbc8c4, the next shade darker, you can adjust your new scheme accordingly.

Pantone have a brilliant website to keep you sane. You can see every colour of the rainbow with hex numbers, RGB, CIE L*ab numbers, plus every colour either side of any colour.

Having battled with cracked phone screens for years, just to see a web page is a miracle in itself.

  • If your in-built app only shows RGB values, like the Digital Color Meter on a Mac (every graphc designer's favourite platform), you can translate RGB to Hex easily enough on this website.
Wot, no Hex? WTF.

Feedback welcome

If there are any modifications I could make, let me know.

And any extra features you would like to see, I'm open to suggestions.

Win 17000 sats for the best colour scheme

At Christmas I will set up a vote for the best colour-schemed micro website. Spread the word to all the design sites. Could be fun and bring a lot of traffic to the members of the Olive Grove Community from new sources, new opportunities, new connections.

At the moment 17000 sats will cost me about €10 worth of BTC. By Christmas 2024 that could be quite a different story. But 1BTC always equals 1BTC so I know where I stand with that prize money.

242 sats, that would be your share if the Bitcoin pool were shared out equally between everyone on earth. So 17000 is quite a big deal in the future!
